Review of Sweet Evil

Goodreads Summary: "Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.

Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
"
When I first picked this book up I managed to get about thirty pages in before I was seriously considering setting it aside. I've only ever marked one book as did-not-finish but I'm prone to setting novels aside until I might be better in the mood for them. Sweet Evil almost made the list. I was bored senseless. Anna was such a goody-goody she was just making me want to bash my head against a wall. I was beginning to fear that the angel story it contained was going to be one of the overly moral ones I typically fled from.

Boy was I wrong.

It takes awhile for Sweet Evil to hit its stride but once it does, watch out! I hadn't even realized that I was addicted, that entranced by the novel until my phone went off and startled me out of my trance. I was a hundred pages short of finishing Sweet Evil by then and only mere hours had flown by. Hadn't it just been a few seconds ago I had contemplated putting it back on the shelf?

Like I said Anna was a huge turn-off in the beginning for me. I was easily irritated by her and just begging for another character to take the reins and get me away from her. Thankfully Miss Goody-Two-Shoes doesn't stay that way for long. Just when you'll be about to toss the novel out a window there is an about face and suddenly Anna is that main character you had been hoping for all along. A real girl! The Blue Fairy must have waltzed in and out while you weren't looking. Once Anna began to live I loved her. I had to know what was going to happen next, I felt for her, all of those good things that awesome main characters make you do.

Hands down Kaiden was the winner for me here. I love bad boys. Nine times out of ten if there is a bad boy in a story I'm down. And if there is a love triangle I am pretty much always Team Bad Boy. You can safely bet on it. The odds are that good. Kaiden was exactly my kind of bad boy. Angsty, tough as nails and with that elusive heart of gold. Or at least I think so. But then again I'm one of those girls who is positive that every bad boy is capable of being redeemed...some of them just don't get enough pages for it.

I highly recommend Sweet Evil to readers hunting for a good angel novel. Once you get over that initial hump its an amazing read, fast-paced and with a great cast that will leave you wanting more...and more...and more. And make you wonder if maybe, just maybe, the author is a daughter of a demon herself...Sweet Evil is pretty addicting. Just saying. ;]

  1. LOVED Kaiden! As I tell everyone, I think Carrie Underwood's Good Girl is the perfect theme song for this novel

  2. Anna was a little too goody for me in the beginning as well but Kaidan (and later on, Anna, too) totally redeemed the book for me. I just couldn't get enough of it! Kaidan . . . words just can't describe him! I'm the same way when it comes to books - it has a bad boy, then I'm in! I'll pick them over the safe guy any day.

Have you heard of a book that is releasing this year called The Collector? This is the book I am most excited for this year! Here's a link to the website if you want to check it out! http://www.dantewalker.com/ Ultimate bad boy in this one. Cannot wait!!

New Follower, by the way! Great review!
