Once Upon a Read-a-Thon 2012

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

I don't think this Read-a-Thon could possibly have been scheduled at a better time for me. I haven't been reading as much as I used to, which means I don't have my usual abundance of reviews just waiting to be posted. No bueno for Typing Tiara. So I'm super psyched to participate in this challenge!

Books I Hope To Read:
Defiance by C.J. Redwine [130 pages in pre-Read-a-Thon]
Troll or Derby by Red Tash
The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge
The Nightmare Garden by Caitlin Kittredge
The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare [MAYBE. Just got CoLS & I kind of want to do a reread]

Day One:
I participated in Loretta's Mini Challenge @ Between the Pages. :]

IB Book Blogging Mini Challenge:
(1) My favorite cover that has been revealed this summer would be, well, I don't pay a lot of attention to cover reveals normally so I'm not entirely sure when it was revealed. But I like Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick because Nora is leading Patch and not the other way around. Its a show of strength from a character that isn't always a strong heroine, I hope its true to the story inside.
(2) I do rely a lot on a cover, though I know we aren't *supposed to* judge books by their covers. I pick up books based on the covers all of the time, sometimes it works and others it doesn't. If the cover catches my attention I'm way more likely to read the book. If I don't like the cover I wait until I see a rave review or get a personal recommendation to pick up the book.

  7. BookSmartie, I'm almost crazy enough to be completely serious. I mean, I should read the other books first but I'm tempted to just dive right in and go for it. I really really want to read CoLS...its just calling to me!

And thank you so much! I pretty much love Typing Tiara, its exactly what I was hoping for when I set out to put together my own blog. <3

  9. Sounds like you have several great reads for this read-a-thon. I'm going to try to finish up City of Glass during the read-a-thon so I hope you have fun with re-reading the series. :)

    Happy reading!

  10. I hope you can finish your chosen reads! I always love rereading Cassie Clare, her books are always so gripping and fun. And I can't wait to see what she has in store in City of Lost Souls. :]

  11. Great list of books! I think we all struggle to keep up with our reading in summer! (oops...assuming you are in the same hemisphere as I am)

  12. Lol. I'm summer too. California girl born and raised. :]

    And thank you!

  14. I'm a fan of TMI too. Though I have to admit I love ID a little bit more. Just a little bit. Thank you! :]

  16. LOL. Crazy list for a crazy person. All the books are big...I hadn't noticed that until I went to pick books off of my July TBR and realized that there were no short titles whatsoever.

As for Defiance, I lucked out and one of my blogger friends was doing a tour with it.

Thank you! I'm super glad to be participating, its been fun so far. :]

  17. Good Luck! I know how getting back into reading can be hard when things have been slow for a while.

  18. Thank you! I have a feeling I'll be needing it. I used to be a total reading machine and I feel like I've just been dragging through my last few books.

  19. Good luck to you :D I've heard some good things about Defiance - I hope you enjoy it & I look forward to seeing your review(: I've also heard of Troll or Derby - it sounds like a fun read :D And again, good luck & happy reading!

  20. Thank you! I think I'll be needing it. I have barely read a hundred pages today. I've been too busy checking out other blogs and running errands.

Can't wait to devour these books and get my reviews up to share them with everyone. :]

  21. How are you liking Defiance? I tried to read it, but I just... couldn't. I had the strangest case of deja vu with that book - I swear I've read something exactly like it before. I really wanted to love it, but I was over 100 pages in and it wasn't picking up for me. I'll probably try again one day.

  22. I know what you mean about covers. I try not to judge a book by its cover, but I am certainly more likely to pick up a book I knoow little about if it has an attractive cover.

  23. Bekka, so far I'm enjoying Defiance. I love the alternating POVs but at times I am having that strange case of deja vu that you mentioned...and when I do it just about drives me crazy trying to remember what book it reminds me of. If you figure it out, let me know!

  24. @neeuqfonafamai, That is the same way that I feel. Attractive covers are what capture my attention in the first place. If its lackluster I'm less likely to notice it in a bookstore.

  25. I know it's real hard not to judge a book by it's cover. This readathon is helping me get out of my reading funk.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That is what I'm hoping the read-a-thon will do for me too. I'm so tired of being in this funk. :/

  27. Whoa awesome reading list! I want to read Troll or Derby, it sounds very different from anything of read. Enjoy your reading. :D

I feel the same way about covers, I didn't like Starters cover at all and I decided to add in on my TBR because of all the good reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you! I'm over halfway through Troll or Derby and I can definitely contest to it being different, unlike anything I've read before.

Starters cover seriously creeped me out but it ended up being a good read.
