Review of Linger

My review of Linger by Maggie Stiefvater is based on a paperback copy of the book that I purchased for myself from Amazon. The following review is my honest opinion of the work.

Goodreads Summary: "In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.

At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love - the light and the dark, the warm and the cold - in a way you will never forget.

I was thrown off when I first started reading Linger because it was no longer told solely from the perspectives of Grace and Sam [both of whom I love]; now there are sections narrated by Isabel and Cole as well. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about Cole narrating though I am gradually getting more curious about his best and what led him to becoming a wolf. On the other hand I absolutely loving having Isabel as a narrator as I had grown to really like her from Shiver, go figure.

I saw it coming from almost the beginning of the book but the ending had my eyes welling up with tears and I just felt so much for the characters. I had formed connections with all of them, strong connections and I just wanted everything to work out for them despite the fact that I knew not all stories were meant to have happy endings.

I was warned by some that Linger wasn't quite as good as Shiver, that it lacked in what made Shiver the amazing book that it was. I disagree. In the beginning I wasn't so sure that it was but the story kind of snuck up on me and again I was floored.

I'm giving Linger by Maggie Stiefvater a five out of five stars review. If you haven't already you really should pick up Shiver and just read this entire series. The Wolves of Mercy are AMAZING and you will not regret it.

  2. I know what you mean. Only for me it's not reading faster so much as doing homework faster so that I can get to the books that are waiting for me. I really want to read Revelations by Melissa de la Cruz right now but I have to finish a paper.

You're welcome! I love knowing that my reviews are doing some good. :]
