Review: The Goddess Test

In case you're new around here and don't know, I'm a literature major. Normally this doesn't come into play with my young adult reads because they're my fun times, my just for the heck of it pleasure reads...but every now and again something I read for my major crosses over and gives me major cravings in my fun reads. Oftentimes something mythological. I LOVE pretty much everything mythological, doesn't matter what country's myths they are, I just love them all. But I have a special fondness for books about Hades. [To the point where I've been working on writing my own! :o] So if I see that name pop up in a summary, I'm bound to get the book.

In this case I'm a little late to the party. 

The Goddess Test is one of those books that I've seen popping up for ever now, or so it seems, and its almost always gotten rave reviews. And yet for some reason, though its been on my wishlist since probably the first time I saw it, I never got around to reading it. [This seems to happen quite a bit actually.] And then I was lucky enough to win a copy of the first book, as well as the final, in the trilogy. And I started reading...and kept reading...and then the next thing I knew I was finished and on my way to Barnes and Noble to pick up the second book in the series because I WANTED IT RIGHT THEN AND THERE.

I think my favorite part of the book was actually trying to guess which characters were which gods, and in some cases my guesses were dead on...in other cases I was surprised by the reveal, and it was fun both ways. I loved the "contemporary" portrayal of the characters and hope that as the series progresses you get to spend more time getting to know the various gods as well as their proper "myths" and how they factor into the characters that they appear to Kate as. But of course, my favorite was Henry. I just have a thing for Hades, okay? :P

So if you love mythology, romance, and a hint of danger then look into the trilogy. If you're in a reading slump and need a quick read that will snap you out of it, this is the book for you.
