I liked Sweethearts and yet came away from it feeling that it was just okay overall, leaving me torn between a two star and three star rating. It was well written and interesting to a point. The characters had depth to them yet I felt in some ways as if I hardly got to feel that depth; I feel that in some ways they are still mysteries to me, enigmas if you will. Maybe that is because I didn't connect with them in the way that I like. It just wasn't a good fit. I'll probably be checking out other works by Sara Zarr in the future but I don't necessarily feel as if I have to rush out and do that now. Just sometime. Though I hate to say it, Sweethearts was likable but not particularly memorable for me.

I'm sorry that you didn't really like this one Ash! The synopsis seems really intriguing, so I may end up checking it out from the library (if my lame-o library even has it!). I read a Sara Zarr book a while back ago, and I remember really enjoying it (I can't for the life of me remember what the name was though, but I do remember the cover had snow and a bench or something). So I do recommend trying out some of her other stuff! =)

I thought the same thing! I thought I would be really invested in this one but it just never really clicked with me. Maybe it was the timing or something. I hope you find yourself enjoying it if you can get a hold of a copy.
