Review of Touch of Frost

Gypsy? Did I hear the word gypsy? Oh yes, oh yes I did. Since I was a kid I've had an avid fascination with gypsies; for me they are one of those key words that just draw me in every time, much like the fey. If I see gypsies mentioned anywhere in the synopsis for a book I am ALL over it. And this, this is how I ended up reading Touch of Frost instead of the review book I should have been reading.

There's only one way to describe Gwen Frost and that is to use a word near and dear to my family, a favored word, and that word is ornery. Gwen Frost is one ornery gypsy. Stacks of comics, shelves of fantasy novels and gummy bears. Gwen Frost is a girl after my own heart. And her love of hoodies? Jennifer Estep might as well have been writing about me. I mean, she practically nailed my room. Aside from the prison gray walls, insane amounts of pink and the zebra print. Everything else, dead on. Just call me Gypsy Girl. xD

Do I really need to come out and say that I loved Gwen Frost? Because I did. And I do.

The rest of the cast too. I especially loved Daphne and Professor Metis though not necessarily in that order. And Logan. Just wait until you get a glimpse of that spear-throwing hunk of a bad boy. Talk about sa-woon!

The mythology, the magic, and the woven history just combined to make a fantastic start to a new urban fantasy series. Its not often these days that I find myself staying up reading until the wee hours of the morning but Touch of Frost was the exception to the rule. I kept telling myself just one more chapter, just one more chapter, just one more chapter until it was suddenly one o'clock in the morning and I was over seventy percent through the novel. I just couldn't put it down. I wanted, no, I had to know what was coming next. And it was all I could do to settle down and write this review having finished Touch of Frost instead of immediately devouring Kiss of Frost...and ordering the third book in the series.

I am totally recommending this series to anyone craving an awesomely nerdy heroine in an urban fantasy realm. Awesome read, just awesome. :]
