Tiara Talk: Saying Goodbye

About ten minutes ago I finally broke down and watched the One Tree Hill finale. I bawled for the entire two hours then realized that I SUCK at saying goodbye whether it be real life, a TV series, or a book series because to me they might as well all be real. When I'm invested in something it becomes a part of my life. One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, and nameless book series all became a big part of my life.

And I hate the endings even when they are absolutely perfect for the mere fact that they have to end.

Rationally I know all good things must come to an end. I get that, I really do. But still.

I think that is a big part of why I put off finishing the Harry Potter series, I wanted to stay paused in that one segment without knowing the "real" ending.

Even now the characters in all of the series I ever watched or read live on, I think about them occasionally and wonder where they are or what they are doing. I'll wonder what so-and-so is doing. Did that charming little boy fall in love with a tutor like another charming boy I know? Do those scamps wander around under cover of night with a certain cloak? Where are they now?

Once a part of my life, always a part of my life.

What about you guys? Do you let go easily? Do your favorite characters stick with you long after the final credits have rolled or you read the words "The End"?

  1. I totally get what you mean...there's that bittersweet feeling of wanting all the answers...yet not wanting it to end. I totally cling to my favourite series', desperately wishing the author would write more! I have such a love/hate relationship with endings too, cause I usually do not feel satisfied by them....I think that's just me though

  2. I have been the same way with certain series, Cait. Its hard to walk that fine line of giving us enough to be satisfied with the series while still letting characters live on in your mind. Sometimes those get really shut down and that always makes me sad. I love it when it ends just right for the time but I can still picture my favorite characters doing their thing, whatever that may be.

  3. OH THANK GOODNESS. *hugs*

I saw the title of this post and thought you meant that you were quitting the blog D:

Back to less horrible possibilities... other endings! Hm... sometimes I'm seriously upset. Harry Potter DEVASTATED ME and I think I sobbed A LOT. But other things I'm better at leaving. I don't get that attached to TV shows really, mostly because I usually lose interest and some point and stop watching of my own accord anyway. The characters definitely stick with me though, that's one thing I can definitely agree on :)

  5. Oh geeze you guys! I never meant to worry you, I guess I didn't think. You should totally know better. I would never just do a random goodbye post on the blog and be gone, especially not with Typing Tiara turning one on Sunday. I'd talk it out with you guys first. I'm definitely not quitting. You guys are stuck with me.

    *hugs both of you* <3

Sonia, Harry Potter KILLED me with that last book. I have no idea when I'll be able to put myself through that again for a reread...though I really miss those characters and want to revisit them.
