Review of Supernaturally

My review of Supernaturally by Kiersten White is based on a hardcover copy of the book that I won from a giveaway by a fellow blogger. The following review is my honest opinion.

Goodreads Summary: "Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be . . . kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.

But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.

So much for normal."

Let me start by saying that I absolutely loved Paranormalcy, the first book in this series penned by Kiersten White. I loved Evie as a narrator and main character, I even distinctly remember writing in my review that I wished I could claim her as my new best friend. She was that much fun. The world that Kiersten White had created was equally compelling and did she ever know how to tell a captivating tale. So of course I was eager to see what Supernaturally would hold in store for Evie and her friends.

While I enjoyed being reunited with Evie in this book I don't quite feel the same way about her that I did upon finishing Paranormalcy. She didn't seem to be quite the same girl. Evie and Tasey kicked some serious butt in the first book and in this one she seemed content to play the damsel in distress. Half the time she didn't even have Tasey with her!

I had hoped to get a better feel for Reth in this one; he seemed like such an interesting character when we were first introduced to him, yet I still feel as in the dark about him as ever. I want more! The same goes for Evie's love interest, Lend who was away at college for most of the book with occasional visits home whenever Evie needed him most. I wanted more of that guy that I had met in Paranormalcy who kept pushing Evie for more, to be more, to do more, to THINK more. Can I haz some of him plz?

I had gone into this book expecting another insane Evie-led adventure...but that wasn't what I got. I'm giving Supernaturally by Kiersten White a four out of five stars review. I still really liked this book, but it simply didn't hold the magic for me the way the first one did. I'm really hoping that the third one lives up to the first book.

  3. I've see similar reviews of this, people saying Evie just isn't the same as she was in the first book. I did enjoy paranormalcy, but I wasn't a HUGE fan, so I'll probably keep supernaturally to the bottom of my pile for a bit. Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this as much as you'd've liked to!

  4. I'm really hoping in Endlessly she'll be back to her crazy antics and that Supernaturally will have been made to be a worthwhile read but I'm not holding my breath as of right now.

You're welcome and thank you for commenting! :]
