Wishing on Wednesday (5)

Ash by Malinda Lo
Goodreads Summary: "In the wake of her father's death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King's Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash's capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.

Entrancing, empowering, and romantic, Ash is about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief."

I have wanted to read this book for a very long time, and not just because the title of the book is the same as my nickname. Though that is pretty cool. I fell in love with the cover first. It's so simplistic yet so gorgeous and oh so very powerful. Something about it just speaks to me. Another thing is having lost my own father I am often drawn to books where other girls are having to deal with similar circumstances, they help me cope. Another win for Ash. Finally Ash is torn between two loves, that of a female and a male. Which really stands out to me in a world of heterosexual romances. Finally? It's about the fey and you guys know how I feel about them. LOVE. All in all it's a must read and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa
Goodreads Summary: "Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.

Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart."

Again, I'm a sucker for novels about the fey. What makes this series stand out? A totally awesome love triangle where I'm just as torn between the two love interests as Meghan herself. Though Ash kind of is winning. I do love me some mysterious men. And he plays the part oh so well.

Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr
Goodreads Summary: "Aislinn never expected to rule in Faerie--but that was before Keenan stole her mortality to make her a monarch. Now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever dreamed of.

Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone--but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he's ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on a new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen."

I have a love/hate relationship with this series but I'm still crazy eager to read the last three novels it contains. Melissa Marr is a great writer. And I especially am looking forward to getting the next book because my boyfriend has claimed it as the series he will be buying for me and leaves special little love notes for me on the front inside cover.

Well, these are my picks for this week. What books are you wishing for? :]

  1. Oh, I really want to read Ash too! It sounds like the creepiest Cinderella telling ever.

The Iron Daughter was so good :) I mean, Meghan drove me a little crazy in the beginning, but she improved after that. ASH. Trust me, if you're wavering, you'll fall even more in love with Ash, especially after this book. *SWOON*

That's where I'm at, too! I really liked the first two books so I'm excited to read this one. I've had it from the library for ages and I just keep renewing it because... well, because I can. I really need to get around to it!

Your boyfriend sounds so sweet :) That's adorable.
