Wishing on Wednesday (4)

Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres
Goodreads Summary: "In Ixion music and party are our only beliefs. Darkness is our comfort. We have few rules but they are absolute . . .

Retra doesn’t want to go to Ixion, the island of ever-night, ever-youth and never-sleep. Retra is a Seal – sealed minds, sealed community. She doesn’t crave parties and pleasure, experience and freedom.

But her brother Joel left for Ixion two years ago, and Retra is determined to find him. Braving the intense pain of her obedience strip to escape the only home she’s ever known, Retra stows away on the barge that will take her to her brother.

When she can’t find Joel, Retra finds herself drawn deeper into the intoxicating world of Ixion. Come to me, whispers a voice in her head. Who are the Ripers, the mysterious guardians of Ixion? What are the Night Creatures Retra can see in the shadows? And what happens to those who grow too old for Ixion?

Retra will find that Ixion has its pleasures, but its secrets are deadly. Will friendship, and the creation of an eternal bond with a Riper, be enough to save her from the darkness?

Listen well, baby bats. Burn bright, but do not stray from the paths. Remember, when you live in a place of darkness you also live with creatures of the dark."

I am desperate to get my hands on a copy of this book. I love the premise for it. I'm a total sucker for dystopian these days and this one comes across as original as it gets. Unfortunatly the only place I can find it available is Australia. Since I live in California [for the geography challenged this is in fact in the USA] this poses a problem. According to Marianne de Pierres herself they are working on getting this amazing book out to other countries, particularily the US. If you want this book you NEED to say something, blog something, tweet something, somehow let it be known. The more people that raise a fuss the more likely that it will come to your locality sooner.

We Want To Buy Burn Bright

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Goodreads Summary: "In Clockwork Prince, with Mortmain vanished and the clock counting down on how long Charlotte can keep control of the Institute away from Benedict Lightwood, Will, Jem and Tessa must dig into Mortmain’s past to predict what he will do in the future, But secrets about Mortmain aren’t all they find buried — Tessa begins to uncover the truth about her own birth, and the ghosts of Will’s past return to haunt him. As Tessa grows closer to Jem, and Will is driven further toward the brink of madness by jealousy and guilt, will they discover the truth in time to halt the next phase of Mortmain’s evil plan?"

Is it out yet? Is it out yet? This is one of those books that I'm desperately flipping couch cushions over for in hopes of finding spare change. I've told myself that I'm not allowed to spend money on books right now but this is a must-have must-pre-order. I LOVED Clockwork Angel. Loved, loved, loved it. Jem and Will are amazing. Love them both. [Remember when I mentioned how rare love triangles are where you find yourself falling for both guys? Oh yeah this is one of them.] Tessa is up there with Evie [Paranormalcy], and all of you already read how I felt about her.

The Pledge by Kimberly Derting
Goodreads Summary: "In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she’s spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can’t be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime."

Did you get the sucker for good dystopian memo above? I think this is going to be one of the good ones. Either way I want it. Especially because of the line where Charlie is attracted to Max though she can't tell where his real loyalties lie. Oh. Em. Gee. So very intriguing.

So were any of these books already on your wish list? Are they now? Tell me some titles that you're dying to get your hands on. I firmly believe that a wish list, at least mine, can never be long enough. :]

  2. All of these look wonderful! I am a total Jem girl, personally :) Not that I don't love Will, too, but.. yeah. Jem. Wouldn't you be able to get Burn Bright from the Book Depository? That's the only thing I can think of.

On a completely unrelated side note, have you downloaded the Summer's Crossing novella by Julie Kagawa? Have you even read the Iron Fey series? It's highly recommended if you haven't! :)

  3. I love Will but Jem's sweetness makes me swoon. Cassie really outdid herself with those two. They make the perfect love triangle with Tess.

And no, Burn Bright isn't available from the Book Depository. It was like the first place I checked. I still can't believe they don't have it.

And yes I downloaded it! How could I not? Um, hello, ultimate fey lover? xD

I've only read the first book though so I had to put it aside. I want the next one SO BAD.

I love Ash. Puck. No Ash. Puck...

Kagawa also is amazing with these triangles. -.-
