Wishing on Wednesday [38]

Wishing and hoping, and thinking and praying...

Goodreads Summary: "Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

In her exquisitely written fantasy debut, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, and utterly original world. Seraphina's tortuous journey to self-acceptance is one readers will remember long after they've turned the final page.
"
Gifted musician? Joining the court? Member of a royal family murdered? A dangerously perceptive prince? And a secret that could mean Seraphina's very life? AND IT IS A FANTASY NOVEL? Plus, you know, it has a GORGEOUS cover. This is definitely something that caught my attention. And the fact that it has been getting some amazing reviews definitely hasn't hurt. I'm new to dragons, I haven't read much of anything with them as a focal point but I want to. As a fantasy lover its practically rule numero uno that I have to. And I was born in the year of the dragon so there's that bond too. Needless to say I want to branch out and read about the magnificent beings and Seraphina sounds like a great place to start.

What do you guys think of Seraphina? Is it something you would read? What are you wishing for this Wednesday?

I feel like reading another royal fantasy type book, last one I read like that was Bitterblue, which isn't an age ago, but long enough.

  2. Katja, I've been craving more royal fantasies as well. I'm a HUGE fan of fantasy and those just happen to be my absolute favorites. And I think Bitterblue might have been my last one too.
