Review of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Goodreads Summary: "Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.
"

I fell in love with the cover for this book the moment it was released, I coveted this title like a crazy person and was over the moon when I won a copy. Then it sat on my shelf. Then it sat some more. The poor abandoned novel. I just kept putting it off. The hype! Oh the hype. I wasn't sure that any novel could possibly live up to the hype, the adoration of so many bloggers that I loved and respected. It was insanity!

But actually, no, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer itself is what is insanity. Pure extract of insanity.

Mara herself? Well. I can't really tell you much about her without giving it all away. And I wouldn't want to ruin it for you so let's just say she's quite the heroine...and will take you on a journey full of twists, turns, and mad dashes in every possible direction.

You guys know how I feel about the bad boys, and the male MC of this novel delivers in spades.

My one regret? Jamie. I loved this guy and I felt he was only there for the blink of an eye. Oh Jamie, my Jamie, I barely knew ye and yet I miss you so very much. For what time he was present and accounted for he was an incredibly awesome sidekick/best-friend. Exactly the kind that every girl needs. Alas, he was taken from us too soon. [Noooooo, he didn't die. He just dropped off the face of the Earth. Le sigh.]

Despite its heft, size and content, I devoured this book in a single day...and it would likely have been a single sitting if it weren't for those pesky errands that had to be ran. I swear, errands always kill those single sitting reads for me.

To say the least The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was basically the ultimate mind-f***. Upon finishing this novel I swear I stared at it for at least ten minutes, just blankly staring at it wondering what just happened. And immediately feeling as though I needed to reread it because I had to be missing something. I have a feeling I'll be trying to cram in about a dozen rereads of this one before its sequel releases in October. And I'll be enjoying each and every one.

Rating: 5/5

  1. That's it. I'm buying a copy. Now.

So I saw this book waaay back when it wasn't even released, and I fell in LOVE with that synopsis. It's SO mysterious, I just love it!

Anyways, so I'm glad that you loved this one so much!! I've heard some mixed reviews, but you have made me want to go out and buy a copy now [which I will probably end up doing]. Mara sounds like a fabulous main character. And this book sounds like it's totally addicting, which I always love!

SO glad you loved this one Ash. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy now!

    1. LOL!

I was the same exact way.

I did really enjoy this book, and I heard the same mixed reviews and I could understand why some people didn't loved it so much. Its one of those books that is either a direct hit or complete miss it seems. But it was totally addicting for me at least.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when you get yourself a copy. :]
