Just when you think that a sequel couldn't possibly be more amazing than the first book along comes Shift, the sequel to Jeri Smith-Ready's phenomenal Shade. I had won the book awhile back in a giveaway through the publisher and had begun to wonder if it would ever show up on my doorstep. I was *this* close to placing an order through Amazon when 'lo and behold it arrived. I could have kissed that UPS man. I tore apart the packaging and promptly set down to read.
Like it's predecessor I found Shift to be a quick read and would have devoured it in mere hours had I not been running errands. Despite this I managed to have the book fairly well glued to my hands and regretted every moment that I had to close it. I couldn't stop reading! I laughed, I cried, and GASPED. Yes, that's right, I GASPED.
Aura is such a realistic heroine. She lives up to title in being able to take care of herself while not coming off unbelievable tough. Readers will see that she has her lows as well as her highs, she struggles with the normal traumas of life as well of those of the paranormal world that she calls home. And deals with a group of crazy ghost-concerned government agents. And some really hot male specimens. Yum!
I was warned by fans of the series that there was a great chance that my loyalties could be swayed by the character's actions and having finished Shade I could understand why this warning was delivered. Neither Zachary nor Logan are perfect specimens, okay, they are perfect male specimens but they are HUMAN too. Well. Kind of. GHOSTS ARE PEOPLE TOO, PEOPLE. So yes. They are both people. And people have faults. And make mistakes. It happens. As it happens I still love both these dudes. [Though maybe Zachary just a teensy-weensy bit more...sorry Logan!]
I'm giving Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready a five out of five stars review. Why can't Shine be out already? I absolutely, positively HAVE to have this book when it comes out. The very second if possible. Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready, the conclusion to an amazing trilogy, will be out on May first of this year...so I highly recommend reading the previous two novels before then and placing your pre-order now. You won't regret it. :]
I can't wait to read this so I can read more about Zachary :)
