Review of Anna and the French Kiss

My review of Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins is based on a hardcover copy of the book that I borrowed from my local library. The following review is my honest opinion.

Goodreads Summary: "Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited?
"

I found myself relating to Anna almost immediately due to the fact that her parents abandoned her at a strange school. ALONE. Considering the fact that in a little less than a month I will be moving into the UVA at my new four year university, I'm already squeamish of experiencing this myself.

It took me less than fifty pages to fall head over heels in love with Etienne St. Clair. For me this is a world record in the fictional crush-o-sphere. English accent, a boy who loves his mum, adorable fears [or so I've been told by loved ones as I share similar fears] and just plain scrumptious.

Who doesn't love a novel when the rest of the cast can captivate you just as well as the main characters? Anna and the French Kiss scored major points with me because all of the characters, even those with little screen time, seemed real to me. Stephanie Perkins was able to make even the characters we don't really meet seem well-rounded. An impressive feat in this blogger's humble opinion.

The romance was so high school I couldn't believe it. And I don't mean that in a bad way. What I mean is that all of the misunderstands, the subtleties, it was all there. Everything that was there for every high school romance I know of. I loved every moment of it.

After that same fifty pages of reading I knew that this was a book I was going to be most reluctant to hand back over to the library. I'm giving Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins a five out of five stars review. I loved this book, absolutely loved it. Go read it, go read it now!

  4. I think the better question to ask is, how dare a book not make me swoon so many times? Etienne was totally swoon-worthy and amazing. I can't wait to meet more like him. :D

  6. ahhh I'm so glad you liked it. I agree with you 100 percent throughout the review. Etienne is just amazing and the story is so relatable. Its one of my favorite books ever and like I said before, I'm so jealous you got to read Lola already. Stephanie Perkins is just genius and I love her writing. GREAT review and I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about Lola.
