Review of Forgive My Fins

My review of Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs is based on a hardcover copy of the book that I borrowed from my local library. The following review is my honest opinion and has not been influenced in any way.

Goodreads Summary: "Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it's not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you're a normal teenage girl, but when you're half human, half mermaid, like Lily, there's no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid—she's a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been living on land and going to Seaview High School ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems—like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher—but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type—the instant they "bond," it's for life.

When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned."

I haven't fallen this in love with a narrator's voice since I met Evie in Paranormalcy. Lily was an awesome main character. She had me giggling often and smiling constantly. I loved that she wasn't one of those perfect heroines. She was human. Well, as human as a mermaid can be. Lily is the kind of heroine you find yourself rooting for the entire time, the one that you're dying to have the happy ending. You just adore the girl.

Quince might be my next big crush. Despite being rather obnoxious in the beginning, which from my own experience I recognized as classic hair-pulling I have a crush on you behavior, I liked him. Especially when I found out he wore boots. And was such an amazing kisser. And so romantic. And dreamy. And wonderful. And did I mention he's my newest fictional crush? Oh you bet he is. <3

I devoured this book in a single sitting of only a few hours. Once I picked it up I just couldn't stop. The plot moved along at a fast clip, the characters were captivating, and I loved the mer-world.

This was my first mermaid book, I know I can see the looks of total shock registering on your faces now, and I can guarantee it won't be my last. After all I have got to read Fins are Forever. I'm giving Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs a five out of five stars review. This was a super fun read that I'll be recommending to every YA lover I know. I mean, really, how has grown out of their Little Mermaid fantasies? Not this girl. :]
