Dragons are rapidly moving their way up on my list of paranormal beings that are an automatic buy for me. Firelight by Sophie Jordan was my first introduction to the magnificent creatures, after having read it and enjoyed it I went on the hunt for more. I came across Flying Blind being reviewed on several different blogs and it caught my interest big-time, so I entered every contest for it that I could find...and won!
One thing you’ve probably learned about me from my reviews of fantasy is that I want a good back-story, I want a history that rings true and captivates my interest. Flying Blind has that in abundance. I loved the creation story for the Pyr and the legends of the dragons from before.
Zoë was so much fun to read about. Her voice rang true for me as a reader and I loved getting her unique perspective on what was going on around her. The way she [and her best friend] tackled trying to get Zoë to get her period was reminiscent to me of the "We must, we must increase our bust!" chant of Judy Blume's Are you there God? It's me, Margaret. Hilarious! Are you confused and curious yet? See, this is why you should read the book! And her love interest? What a yummy individual he was.
I loved this book. The action, the history of the Pyr, the characters, everything. I'm giving Flying Blind by Deborah Cooke a five out of five stars review. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, Winging It and will probably pick up some of the books in the series about the adult dragons to tide me over in the mean time.
Ooo, I'm intrigued! I used to read Anne McCaffrey when I was a kid, but it's been a while since I read a dragon story. So you think this may be a new trend in YA? I think I need to check out Flying Blind. *scoots over to Amazon*
ReplyDeleteI had bought a couple of her books at a used book sale but they weren't in the right order so I haven't started reading them yet. I've heard a lot of good things about Anne McCaffrey though.
