Tiara Talk: Guilty Pleasures

Let's talk guilty pleasures.

We all have them. For me a guilty pleasure, when it comes to books and reading, would be a book that I know I shouldn't spend my money on because I will just go through it in a snap. When you're a fast reader on a limited budget you really have to be careful what you spend your money on. I blame my absolute favorite guilty pleasure series, one that I'm sure is bound to make a great number of you cringe, on my cousin.

You see when we were younger, and in those happy days where all we had to do was glance at a book in order to have it immediately bought for us, she would send me bags upon bags of her finished books as she would only read a book once than be done with it forever. My favorite guilty pleasure series came out of one of those bags. What is the series you ask? The A-List by Zoey Dean.

I'm addicted to these books. Whenever I'm down/depressed or just want some literary drama I reach for one of these books. I've lost track of how many times I've read this series.

As a Literature major who spends hours, when school is in session, reading the classics and discussing "great literature" I tend to feel extremely guilty reading these. Why? Because as one of my old professors would say they are "fluff" pure and simple.

And it doesn't help that I seem to be able to read a single volume in an hour or two which makes them kind of expensive for me at their usual nine to ten dollar prize range. Luckily my cousin provided me with the first five books of the series so I haven't had to purchase that many of them for myself but still, at nine dollars I tend to feel guilty about making the purchase anyway. I mean you can do a lot with nine dollars if you know how to shop.

Luckily I have managed to find these books at a used bookstore for a dollar apiece (seven and nine) and last week managed to score the eighth one for four dollars on Amazon. These lucky steals make my guilty pleasure a lot more palatable.

That and the fact that I'm starting to just not care. So what if they are fluff? Sometimes everyone needs a good dose of fluff where everyone is hot, rich, and free to do whatever they want with no real repercussions. Other than the occasional cat-fight. Or losing your boyfriend to the hottest chick in school. Or to the goody-goody who just arrived.

So, what's your guilty reading pleasure? Do you have one? Let me know, I mean after all I did post mine on a public blog where anyone and everyone can see. ;]

  1. Oh, you have a new header! :) I like it, it's pretty.

I haven't read this series but I have heard of it. Who doesn't like some good fluff once in a while? As for guilty pleasures.. I don't know if I have one. I read the entire Camp Confidential series (it's MG fluff, LOL!) - does that count?

  2. Thank you! It took me a couple hours but I'm pretty happy with it.

I love me some fluff. I haven't heard of the Camp Confidential series but it sounds interesting. I'll have to look it up as my guilty pleasure series is coming to an end.

And yes, it totally counts! :D
